Due to COVID-19, it is with a heavy heart that the Go Bo! Foundation has made the difficult decision to cancel our major fundraising event of the year, the 9th Annual Go Bo! Foundation Bake Sale. Fall just won’t be the same without all of us coming together as a community; however, tough cookies don’t crumble! We are not going to let a stinking pandemic stop us from carrying on Bo’s message and fighting for those affected by childhood cancer.
We believe that, with your help, we can keep the “Bo-mentum” going through these challenging. We are asking you to please donate to “Bucks for Bo” and then help us spread Bo’s message by sharing this post. That’s it. Next year will mark our 10th annual bake sale and we will come back bigger and better than ever!
“Bucks for Bo” Campaign
Goal: Raise funds for medically fragile children. These funds will be used to support the High-Risk Hematologic Malignancy Program at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, which is aimed at understanding pediatric leukemia biology with the goal of finding innovative ways to treat extremely intransigent cancers.
Bo’s Story and the Go Bo! Foundation
At the age of 12, Bo Johnson was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia, EM/AML. He valiantly fought this disease, but lost his battle on September 28, 2012. Bo’s story does not end there, though. The illness that took his life could not stifle his spirit, his courage or his kindheartedness.
Bo had a mission, his message was simple: “Love each other, help each other, have your neighbor’s back. If you see someone in need, even a stranger, reach out and help. The world can be a better place if we care and help each other.” The Go Bo! Foundation was Bo’s idea, his passion. He wanted to bring hope to children with life-threatening medical conditions by funding research, supporting treatment, and helping their families during times of financial need.
The Go Bo! Foundation has a three-tiered approach of assistance:
1. Funding childhood cancer and related blood disorder research at the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc.)
2. Supporting state-of-the-art treatment in a child friendly environment at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
3. “Paying it forward” to families of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition.
The Go Bo! Foundation is a way for each of us to give back; a community of people gathering together to “pay it forward” because Bo reminded us how to live each day. Through the dedication of the Go Bo! Foundation, Bo’s spirit is alive and well and his legacy lives on. You only live once, make it count — a lesson that Bo taught all of us well.
Thank you for your support of the “Bucks for Bo” campaign. Go Bo!
